“Education is what survives when what has been learnt has been forgotten.” B.F. Skinner. The Educators meet of Mangalore Province was held on 24 July 2017, at Bethany Provincialate, Vamanjoor. All the Heads of the Bethany educational institutions, Correspondents of schools and Hostel, together with Hostel Wardens participated in the meeting. Sr M Cicilia Mendonca B.S., the Provincial Superior & Corporate Manager of BES, in her Key Note Address said that Education is a transformative process. As religious we need to go out with the ‘smell of the Lord’ to the people, so that they experience the presence God. She also exhorted the sisters to use ‘Life Skills” in order to make the education transformative.
Speaking on “Effective administration of BES schools and its essentials” Sr Jeevan B.S., the Dy Secretary, BES, guided the sisters with this regard. She explained the ‘four diamonds’ that are within a person, viz. ‘carat’ – passion and positive energy, ‘colour’ – personality and skills, ‘cut’ – perseverance and ‘clarity’ – principles, vision, openness, creativity etc. She exposed the duties and responsibilities of the various leaders of the Management, in particular that of the Headmistress and the Principals.
In the afternoon session Sr Theresine B.S, spoke about the Little Way Association and expressed her wish that it should be rejuvenated again. After the group discussion there was plenary session which was moderated by Sr Mariola B.S., the Education Coordinator. Revival and strengthening of Bethany Champions and revisiting the Little way association or Bethany florets of St Therese in our schools became the driving force of the plenary. She reiterated that giving importance to impart the values of Christ to the students and youth of today will enable us to create a new society.
In her concluding message Sr M. Cicilia Mendonca B.S., the Provincial Superior and the Corporate Manager of BES, thanked all the Heads of the Bethany educational institutions of Mangalore Province. She reaffirmed that we need to be cooperative collaborate in our ministry of education and work hand in hand with all the stakeholders.
Using the imagery of honey bee she said that we need to work like the honey bee which collects nectar from plants without being exhausted. The meeting was concluded at 4.00 p.m. by glorifying God. The whole day’s programme was compeered by Sr Anita Lydia BS the Principal, Jyothi P U College, Ajekar. Sr Anitha Tressy and Sr Veena Vincia invoked God’s blessing at the start of the day. Sr Sybil Welcomed the gathering and Sr Paulette proposed the vote of thanks.
