‘Great indeed are your works O Lord’
Bethany sisters at Kirem, Mangalore took time to marvel at the deeds of the Lord during the tenure of past 50 long years (1967-2017) on the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Mother of Mercy convent, Kirem. It was the time to pause and look back into the faith journey of sisters who toiled in the Kirem soil to make alive the kingdom of God among the simple, ordinary people of God.
The convent celebrated its golden Jubilee on 11.02.2017, on the feast of our lady of Lourdes. The Parish community joined the Bethany sisters for the Thanksgiving Eucharist of the Golden Jubilee at 4.15 pm in our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem. Sr Cicilia Mendonce, the Provincial Superior, Sr Roshal the provincial councillor, Sr Lilita the General councilor, and many other Bethany Sisters were present for the same. The Thanksgiving mass was officiated by Fr Victor D’mello the parish priest of Kirem church, concelebrated by Fr Charles Noronha, Fr Paul Pinto, Fr Valerian Pinto, the former parish priests and Fr Mervin the Rector of SVD minor seminary and many other SVD fathers. Fr Walter Mendonce, SVD broke the Word of God for the celebration and appreciated the vibrant presence and selfless services of Bethany sisters at Kirem in the various ministries of the church.
After the Holy Eucharist there was a jubilant felicitation programme were the pioneer Sr Noreen, the former animators of the community, and the former Parish priests were honored and thanked for their services. The Golden Jubilee celebration joined us together with the fellowship meal at 7.30 pm at the convent premises.
Having cherished the memories of the past we renewed our missionary zeal and refocused on the spirit of our Founder, and the charism of our congregation with the new vigor and love for serving God’s people.
