History:
        
A small village called Kattingeri is situated 16 kilometers away from Moodubelle in Udupi District. It was the keen interest of the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Abundius F. D’Souza to avail of the services of Bethany Sisters in the school as well as St. Lawrence Church. Bishop Rt Rev.Dr. Raymond D’Mello granted permission for the same. The community was erected on 31st may, 1964.Sr. Theresine, the General councillor and Mother Esperie, the Regional Superior were present for the occasion. The parish priest conducted a prayer service and welcomed the Sisters. Sr. Emiline was installed as the superior and Sr. Hilda and Sr. Fabiola assisted her. Some local people of the locality were also present. These three pioneering members were accommodated in a small rented house with two rooms for four years. Two of them began their ministry earnestly by teaching the little ones in the school, catechizing the children both in the school and parish and other pastoral services.
     
The parish donated two and a half acres of church property for the convent . Some of it was earlier donated by Mr.William Souza and Salvadore Barbosa. So a convent  building was built in 1968. It was inaugurated by Rev.Fr. Abundius D’Souza with a prayer service. The Superior General Rev. Mother Macrina was present. Later a hospital building was put up with six beds to meet the local needs. It was blessed by the parish priest Rev. Fr. Valerian GF Rego with a prayer service held in the presence of Mother Macrina , Sr. Verena . Sr.Jospe and Sr. Oliva. Sr. Ancilla was the local superior. Dr. Sr. Lucilla (left) gave her selfless service in the hospital with the help of sr. Fabiola. They even handled maternity cases. The needy people were given free service. Bethany Congregation received 17 vocations from Moodubelle at that time. Sr. Monina continued to serve the sick in the hospital for some time. Due to lack of personnel, the hospital was eventually closed during the superior ship of Sr. Poma. Today the same building is used to teach the nursery children .                                                                                                                               
At present there is a nursery school, and a higher primary school . Other than the educational apostolate, the sisters helped the women through Preethi Mahila Mandal which started in 1994 but, today this unit has lost out to a competing unit of women of Dharmastala  selfhelp groups.
    
All the sisters are interested in teaching  Catechism, animating the sodality, Catholic Women Association, Small Christian Communities, visiting the houses, comforting the sick and the sorrowful, Faith Formation Camps and prepare the first Communicants. This pastoral service is rendered by only five sisters. We have Bethany Lay Association started in 2009 and it bears 10 active members.  This year Lorretto Convent Successfully completes its golden years of dedicated services in and around Moodubelle.
     
While progressing on Bethany’s onward march the struggles and triumphs of the sisters at Loretto Convent Moodubelle collectively constitute part of Bethany Mosaic which can only be filled to a greater completion with more chips and clips from the past and the present.
