History of the Convent: When Rev. Fr. Basil A.D souza was the parish priest of kirem and the college, he was looking for the religious sisters to replace the retiring headmaster . This news was heard by Sr. Bertha in Kinnigole who contacted Superior General Rev.Mother Macrina for a new avenue of spreading of God’s companionate love through education. After an agreement between the aforesaid officials Rev.Mother Macrina sent Sr.Noreen as headmistress of Pompei Higher Primary school, accompanied by Sr.Regis on 1st June 1967.Initially both Sr.Noreen and Sr. Regis daily walked from Maryvale convent, went to teach in the school. Later on they were housed in Maggus Bai’s house (a parishioner).
The parish priest requested MagguBai on behalf of the sisters for her 3acres of land which had been leased to Mr.Gasper Fernandes . That was agreed upon and it was offered by a gift deed to the congregation represented by the Superior General. Then the parish priest created a vacancy for another teaching sister and Sr. Angelica was brought . As the number requested for a community was compete ,the canonical errection of the community was done in Maggu Bai’s house .Sr . Noreen was installed as the first superior of the community.
On 29th April 1970 the Bishop of Mangalore Rt.Rev.BasilD'souza was blessed and inaugurated the new house of Mother Mercy convent.Together with their educational Apostolate the sisters were engaged pastoral ministry.
The following sisters continued animating the community.

Maggu Bai was taken by the sisters . Few years after the death of Maggu Bai, Maggu Bai’s house was removed and is new made use for the affiliate of come and see formation program. It is named Bethany Home.
The parish priest and people of locality appreciated the service of the sisters, especially their teaching apostoate, pastoral activity, Sunday’s mission.
